This archive contains the three Parallax BS2SX Basic Stamp programs that make up the Pocketdial system.

INSTALLATION:

Installation is easy - use the standard Parallax stamp programmer to write each of the three programs to the first three memory locations. Obviously it is important to write each of the programs to their respective memory locations.

Write pdial-0.bsx to memory location 0
Write pdial-1.bsx to memory location 1
Write pdial-2.bsx to memory location 2

Once this is done, the BS2SX is ready to be installed into PocketDial!

USE:

All communications with pocketdial is done via a DB9 serial connection, 9600 Baud, N-8-1, NO flow control.

Upon power-on, pocketdial displays the following text out the Serial DB9 port:
"Press any key for MENU or wait 5 seconds for dialer to start."

If no data is received, then Pocketdial will attempt to start dialing numbers via the phone line connected to the RJ-11 jack. Once the dialing starts, no input is accepted from the serial port. While it is dialing, it will display the number being dialed and the status out the DB9 port. This is useful when first testing Pocketdial to see that it is functioning correctly. It will dial without anything connected to the DB9 port.

If a key is pressed during the inital 5 second delay, then the following menu is displayed:

  Welcome to PocketDial v1.0(proto)
  Copyright (C) 2000, PhreakMonkey Enterprises. - http://www.phreakmonkey.com/
  Menu:
  1 - Display Settings
  2 - Change Settings
3 - Display Results in EEPROM
4 - Erase Results in EEPROM
  9 - Restart (& return to dialer)
  ->

Each of the menu items is fairly self explanitory.

A word about the EEPROM: PocketDial remembers the last number it dialed and the results of the previous dial attempts until option "4 - Erase Results in EEPROM" is selected. IF you change the NPA/PREFIX dialing settings, and don't erase the EEPROM, then the results from the previous dial will be applied to the current settings, which will obviously be incorrect.

Therefore, anytime you change the NPA/PREFIX you are dialing, be sure to erase the EEPROM.

ALSO: Currently PocketDial only supports the following dialing: 0-9 and , (pause) * and # are not supported yet.

Experiment, and have fun!
